Bali tiger and Java tiger, now Sumatran tiger have critical status of extinct....... These tigers were hunted to extinction. the last Balinese tiger is thought to have been killed at Sumbar Kima, West Bali on 27 September 1937. this was an adult female. what u will do after knowing that thing????

Arcadia

Due to its remote, mountainous character, Arcadia has always been a classical refuge. So during the Dorian invasion, when Mycenaean Greek was replaced with Doric Greek along the coast of the Peloponnese, it survived in Arcadia, developing into the Arcadocypriot dialect of Classical Antiquity. Arcadocypriot never became a literary dialect, but it is known from inscriptions. Tsan is a letter of the Greek alphabet occurring only in Arcadia, shaped like Cyrillic И; it represents an affricate that developed from labiovelars in context where they became t in other dialects. Tsakonian Greek, still spoken on the coast of the modern prefecture of Arcadia, in the Classical period considered the southern Argolid coast immediately adjoining Arcadia, is a descendant of Doric Greek, and as such is an extraordinary example of a surviving regional dialect of archaic Greek. The capitals of Tsakonia is the Arcadian coastal towns of Leonidio and Tyros.

One of the birthplaces reported for Zeus is Mount Lycaeum in Arcadia. Lycaon, a cannibalistic Pelasgian king, was transformed into a werewolf by Zeus. Lycaon's daughter was Callisto. It was also said to have been the birthplace of Zeus' son, Hermes.

Arcadia remained a rustic, secluded area, and its inhabitants became proverbial as primitive herdsmen leading simple pastoral unsophisticated yet happy lives, to the point that Arcadia may refer to some imaginary idyllic paradise, immortalized by Virgil's Eclogues, and later by Jacopo Sannazaro in his pastoral masterpiece, Arcadia (1504); see also Arcadia (utopia).

Arcadia later joined the Roman Empire and later the Byzantine Empire. After the fourth crusade, the area became a part of the Principality of Achaea. In the mid-15th century, the region fell into the hands of the Ottoman Turks with some exceptions in the 16th century for a couple of years. During these periods, many towns and villages were founded.

The Latin phrase Et in Arcadia ego which is usually interpreted to mean "I am also in Arcadia" or "I am even in Arcadia" is an example of memento mori, a cautionary reminder of the transitory nature of life and the inevitability of death. The phrase is most often associated with a 1647 painting by Nicolas Poussin, also known as "The Arcadian Shepherds". In the painting the phrase appears as an inscription on a tomb discovered by youthful figures in classical garb. It has been suggested that the phrase is an anagram for the Latin phrase "I! Tego arcana Dei", which translates to "Begone! I keep God's secrets."

After 400 years of occupation by the Ottomans, Arcadia was the centre of the Greek War of Independence which saw victories in their battles including one in Tripoli. After a victorious revolutionary war, Arcadia was finally incorporated into a newly-created Greek state. Arcadia saw economic growth and small emigration.

In the 20th century, Arcadia experienced extensive population loss through emigration, mostly to the Americas. Many Arcadian villages lost almost half their inhabitants, and fears arose that they would turn into ghost towns. Arcadia now has a smaller population than Corinthia. Demographers expected that its population would halve between 1951 and the early 21st century. The prefectural population is in a range to a point that could fall below the 100,000 mark which could make it the next prefecture in Greece to have fewer than 100,000 people.

After World War II and the Greek Civil War, many villages and towns were rebuilt.

An enormous earthquake with a 5 Richter scale range shook Megalopoli and the surrounding area. Many buildings were destroyed, leaving people homeless. Within a couple of years, the buildings were rebuilt anti-seismically. In 1967, construction began on the Megalopoli Power Plant. It began operating in 1970, producing electricity for southern Greece. A mining area south of the plant is the largest mining area in the peninsula and continues to the present day with one settlement moved.

Water problems troubled local residents protesting over the rights of water usage with the Argolida and its new reservoir near Saga, on July 3, 2007. On July 27, a wildfire broke out in Gortynia in the western portion, threatening several nearby villages and burning a small portion of the forested area. Less than a month later, another minor forest fire occurred near Tropaia, on Thursday August 23. A day later, the minor fire became a major blaze beginning in the southwest of Arcadia Soulos. Arson-related fires spread and burned villages including Chrousa, Leontari, Vasta, Tourkoleka, Dirahi, near Megalopoli, Makryssi and Anavryto, and burned around 5% of the prefecture and the southwestern portion. The fire raging in the southern Ilia prefecture spread into Arcadia, and began to burn Atsicholos and the area around Karytaina. Residents prevented the fire from entering Megalopoli, Karytaina, and its surrounding area by chopping down trees, preventing it from entering the village; helicopters received water from Lake Taka and the sea. The fires continued from Friday August 24, with high winds and hot temperatures reported at 42°C; the outbreaks slowed three days later but progressed on Tuesday August 27. The blazes finally died down when temperatures dropped and a low pressure system from southern Europe brought rain into the area; roads had been closed and electricity cut off for several days. At the extinguishing of the fire, hundreds of mobile homes were sent to inhabitants who had lost houses. Trees and a number of groves are to be planted, but it is expected to take a few years to restore part of the area's natural beauty and forest. Less seriously for the area, Kynouria experienced weather problems in the winter, with a snowstorm affecting Leonidi and the village of Agios Petros on February 10, 2008.

4. Jangan gunakan WiFi atau Bluetooth - Seperti peralatan eksternal, WiFi dan Bluetooth mengkonsumsi banyak tenaga. Matikan saat tidak digunakan, maka kerja laptop anda akan menjadi lebih ringan.

Penipu!

Di suatu sidang pengadilan, Pak Hakim meminta terdakwa berdiri untuk mendengarkan tuntutan. “Saudara didakwa membunuh seorang guru SMA dengan menggunakan gergaji mesin!” kata hakim.

Dari deretan meja pengunjung terdengar seseorang berteriak, “Kurang ajaaarrr!!!”

Dengan geram hakim berkata, “Jika anda tidak bisa memberikan alasan kenapa berulah seperti ini, maka saya akan mendudukkan anda di kursi pesakitan dengan tuduhan menghina pengadilan!”

“Saya adalah tetangga terdakwa selama sepuluh tahun terakhir, Pak Hakim. Dan setiap kali saya ingin meminjam gergaji, bor, atau sekop, dia selalu bilang nggak punya!!!”

Penjaga Rel Kereta Api

Sarjo melamar pekerjaan sebagai penjaga lintasan kereta api. Dia diantar meghadap Pak Banu, kepala bagian, untuk test wawancara.

Banu: “Seandainya ada dua kereta api berpapasan pada jalur yang sama, apa yang akan kamu lakukan?” (Pak Banu, ingin mengetahui seberapa cekatan Sarjo).

Anekdot Seputar Pemilu 2009

Ada sebuah anekdot yang saya terima beberapa hari yang lalu dari seorang teman. Dia bilang idenya datang setelah melihat perkembangan situasi politik terakhir. Inilah ceritanya, jangan dianggap terlalu serius ya?

Denny JA dari LSI baru saja melakukan survei calon presiden 2009. Hasilnya dikirim ke SBY, JK dan Mega. Reaksinya semua pada marah. Apa pasal?

Survei SBY:
Pada saat ditanya mengenai popularitas, hasilnya ternyata SBY lebih dikenal sebagai besan Aulia Pohan ketimbang Presiden. Usut punya usut ternyata respondennya adalah karyawan KPK!

Survei JK:
Pada saat ditanya siapakah calon presiden yang paling pas dari Golkar, mayoritas responden lebih memilih Fadel Muhammad (FM) dibanding JK. Usut punya usut ternyata respondennya adalah para pesohor yang sekarang jadi caleg! Alasan mereka, FM lebih keren dari JK.

Survei Mega:
Ketika ditanya siapa wakil presiden yang paling cocok mendampingi Mega. Yang kepilih ternyata bukan Sri Sultan, Hidayat Nur Wahid dll, tetapi adalah Agus Condro! Usut punya usut ternyata respondennya adalah 39 orang penerima cek perjalanan! Alasannya supaya mereka gak ditangkep kayak M. Iqbal!

Antara “mu” dan “kita”

Suatu hari seorang murid berangkat sekolah. Di tengah perjalanan ia melihat seekor sapi milik guru Bahasa Indonesia-nya di tepi jalan. Sesampai di kelas pada saat sang guru asyik menerangkan Bahasa Indonesia, tiba-tiba ia teringat sapi pak gurunya.

Murid:
Pak guru, tadi saya melihat sapi”mu” di pinggir jalan.

Guru:

Apa Yang Bergerak Paling Cepat?

Jakarta (GP-Ansor): Seorang manager HRD sedang menyaring pelamar untuk satu lowongan di kantornya. Setelah membaca seluruh berkas lamaran yang masuk, dia menemukan 4 orang calon yang cocok. Dia memutuskan memanggil ke-4 orang itu dan menanyakan 1 pertanyaan saja. Jawaban mereka akan menjadi penentu apakah akan diterima atau tidak.

“NYALA LAMPU adalah yang tercepat yang saya ketahui”, jawabnya, “Saya sering menyalakan saklar di dalam rumah dan lampu yang di taman depan langsung saat itu juga menyala”

Si manager terkesan dengan jawaban kandidat III. “Memang sulit mengalahkan kecepatan cahaya”, pujinya.

Dilirik oleh sang manager, kandidat IV menjawab, “Sudah jelas bahwa yang paling cepat itu adalah MENCRET”

“APA???!!!”, seru sang manager yang terkaget-kaget dengan jawaban yang tak terduga itu.

Berikut beberapa tips sederhana dalam merawat dan menghindarkan laptop Anda dari kerusakan dini sekaligus menambah umur laptop atau notebook Anda.

1. Tidak sembarangan mendownload software gratis dari internet.
Terlebih lagi misalnya software yang seolah-olah sebagai suatu antivirus. Gunakan software yang telah Anda dapatkan dari paket laptop yang Anda beli. Risiko virus bisa merusak ke dalam laptop Anda jika Anda sembarangan menggunakan software dari internet. Jika Anda tetap ingin menggunakan software hasil download, maka pastikan sudah Anda scan software tersebut dengan antivirus yang Anda miliki.

2. Jangan letakkan laptop di lantai.
Ketika laptop Anda di lantai, maka risiko laptop terinjak kaki orang, anak Anda, atau binatang peliharaan akan sangat besar. Anak kecil akan mengira laptop Anda mainan dan binatang peliharaan Anda bisa saja merusak bagian-bagian tertentu dari laptop. Selain itu laptop yang diletakkan di lantai akan cepat kotor oleh debu.

3. Gunakan stabilizer
Jika Anda sedang bekerja di laptop dengan menggunakan listrik (tanpa baterai), maka sebaiknya gunakan stabilizer yang bisa mencegah terjadinya tegangan listrik yang tidak stabil ke laptop Anda.

4. Jangan letakkan benda apapun di antara keyboard dan layar laptop.
Seringkali seseorang yang menggunakan laptop, kemudian meletakkan kertas-kertas di atas keyboard laptop, kemudian menutup laptopnya. Hal ini sangat berbahaya, karena risiko layar tergores menjadi besar. Tentunya Anda tidak ingin mengganti layar laptop gara-gara tergores bukan?

5. Jangan letakkan laptop Anda pada permukaan yang terlalu empuk.
Misalnya laptop anda letakkan pada sofa yang sangat empuk, sehingga laptop menjadi terlihat agak tenggelam di dalam sofa. Ini adalah sangat berbahaya, karena dapat menghambat keluarnya panas dari dalam laptop dan menjadikan laptop Anda kepanasan.

6. Berhati-hatilah ketika membawa laptop Anda di dalam tas.
Jangan gunakan sembarang tas untuk membawa laptop Anda. Gunakan tas yang memang digunakan untuk laptop sehingga benda-benda lainnya tidak akan menggores bagian-bagian tertentu pada laptop.
7.Jangan pernah minum atau makan atau meletakkan minuman yang mengandung cairan di sekitar laptop.
Ini sangatlah berbahaya, karena laptop sangat peka terhadap cairan yang mengenai laptop, misalnya saja cairan yang masuk ke dalam keyboard.

8. Jangan pernah berusaha untuk membongkar laptop anda sendiri.
Ini merupakan tindakan yang sangat tidak bijaksana. Laptop bukanlah seperti radio atau tape recorder biasa. Banyak bagian-bagian yang sangat kecil yang dari pabriknya saja sudah dirakit dengan menggunakan presisi robot. Jika Anda ceroboh, maka laptop Anda bisa rusak parah. Overview
Once students experiment with poetry, they learn that they have another outlet for communicating their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. In this lesson, students are asked to think about colors, while imagining what they taste, feel, smell, sound, and look like. The students use their five senses as a prewriting tool to guide their poetry writing. This lesson is open-ended enough that students can write free-form poetry or follow a provided template to create a color poem.

From Theory to Practice
In “Priming the Pump,” JoAnn Portalupi explains “A writer’s eye takes in the surroundings with keen perception. Learning to ‘see’ means stretching to use all five senses.” Portalupi encourages writers to “Stake a claim on something—your desk, the classroom, the lunchroom, your bedroom. Don’t just describe what you see, but also include the sounds, smells, and feel of the place” (5). Beyond simply expanding students’ perceptions to inform their writing, asking students to include their senses in their writing through metaphor and simile is a powerful way to learn more about their inner thoughts.

Judith W. Steinbergh tells us that “Students’ use of metaphor . . . reveals their individual ways of thinking about the world, offering teachers and classmates entry into each student’s mind and vision” (324). “In our minds,” Steinbergh explains, “we store the images we gather from the time we are born, vivid fragments rooted in the five senses: the smell of mother’s milk, the texture of grandfather’s face, the terror of trees in a night storm, the sound of sirens or dogs barking sharply in the city, the smell of scallion and garlic sizzling in a wok” (325). By tapping such memories and asking students to think deeply in metaphorical ways, we ask students to connect the things they know to expand their ways of looking at the world. As Steinbergh concludes, “Teachers’ guidance in discussing metaphors in literature and in creating metaphor in original writing offers students a powerful tool that supports their intellectual, emotional, and creative development” (331).

Preparation
Have a variety of physical examples of color available for the students. This could be a large box of crayons, or paint chips from the home improvement store.
Gather sample poems to share with students such as those included in Mary O'Neill's Hailstones and Halibut Bones or those included in the Web Resources below.
Make appropriate copies of the Color Poem Template, Color Poem Examples, and Color Poem Assessment.
This lesson assumes that students have a working knowledge of similes. If not, please refer to the following lessons to set the stage: Figurative Language Awards Ceremony.
View additional poetry links, if necessary, to ensure that they are appropriate for your students.

Choose the templates that will work best for your students’ work—brochures, flyers, or booklets. Adapt this lesson plan for the option you’ve chosen.
Instruction and Activities

Session One: Brainstorming
Ask the students to think about their favorite color, asking, “How would you describe what that color looks like to someone else?” You’ll get varied responses, and maybe some frustrated responses, as it is difficult to put a color into words. Some students might compare their color to a material objective. For example, a student might say, “White is like the snow.”
Ask students to add more details to their description by reminding students that not everyone knows what snow looks like. Ask them to describe their color further. This time, they might say that snow looks soft and fluffy, but feels cold and crunchy.
Have the students practicing describing colors in this way, by working with a partner. Ask one partner to name a color, and then ask the other partner has to describe it. Challenge the students to avoid using material objects in their descriptions, but instead focus on other sensory descriptions—texture, taste, sound, or smell. If a student uses a visual comparison ("Yellow is like the sun"), ask students to add details using their other senses: "Yellow is burning, bright, and hot."
To create partnerships, distribute one crayon to each student. Instruct students to sit with other students who have the same color of crayon. This will be their writing group for the color poem.
Tell students that they will be writing a poem about a color. They will write their poems as if they were describing the color for a person who has never seen it before. Additionally, the person may not know what certain objects look like so they cannot write about things that “are” the color. Instead, the students are to describe their color from each of the other senses: sound, smell, taste, and feel.
Share Color Poem Examples with students, asking them to identify the different sounds, smells, tastes, and textures used to describe the colors in each.
Explore symbolism and imagery with students, explaining how the figures of speech can be used in their poems. Play with symbolism using this Dictionary of Symbolism. Ask students to talk about the literal and figurative meanings of chosen symbols. Or, complete a symbolism mini-lesson to teach concretely about this poetic element. If students need more exposure to imagery, a mini-lesson on the topic can be useful here too.
Using the crayons/paint chips, ask students, individually or with a partner, to choose the color to work with.
Using their writer's notebooks, ask students to brainstorm, answering the following questions:

List 1: What things LOOK (color)?
List 2: What things SOUND (color)?
List 3: What things SMELL (color)?
List 4: How does (color) FEEL?
List 5: What makes YOU FEEL (color)?
List 6: What things TASTE (color)?
List 7: What EXPERIENCES or IDEAS seem (color)?
List 8: Can you think of any (color) PLACES?

Read the book Hailstones and Halibut Bones to the students.
After you've finished the book, ask students what they noticed about the color poems? After hearing the poems, ask if there is anything that they want to add to their brainstorm list? Reinforce that the students should have descriptive phrases written.
After each poem, discuss the author's use of imagery, personification, and unique expressions; the senses the author uses to write about the color; and so forth.
When students have completed their brainstorming, share several more sample color poems with them (see linked poetry examples and booklist). Ask students to pay attention to effective word choice. Elicit student feedback regarding the comparisons of color the authors used.
Discuss the structure of the poems with students. Note that the poems are not all formatted in the same way. This is important for the students to know since their poems might not be following a specific format.
Session Two: Drafting
Ask students to go back to their brainstorming list, selecting the ideas that make the strongest comparison for each sense. Ask students to use their ideas to draft each line of the color poem.
To make the revision process easier, students can write their lines of poetry on sentence strips, so they can be physically manipulated later. Demonstrate how to revise poems by moving strips around easily, reading their poems aloud, and seeing what the poem looks like without rewriting them on paper.
If desired, the students can also use the templates provided as a color poem outline during the drafting stage.
Model the process that the students will go through. Choose a crayon or paint chip. Let’s say that it is called “Passionate Pink.” Say aloud, “To me, when I see this color, I hear Gerbera daisies singing in the wind.” Emphasize to the students that in reality, you can’t hear Gerbera daisies, but to you, that is what you “hear” because when you were little, you often sat on your grandmother’s porch, watching the flowers blow in the breeze.
Compose with the class an example of a color poem, such as the following:

Passionate Pink is …
Singing Gerbera daisies in terra cotta pots
Sugary cotton candy melting in my mouth
A freshly picked rose dripping with dew

Once the process has been explored, answer any questions that students have. Make connections between the templates and the examples available.
Allow students the rest of the class session to work on their poems. Circulate among students, answering questions and providing support as appropriate.
Session Three: Revising/Editing
Once the poems are drafted, students can share their color poems with their peers or writing partners.
Pass out the Color Poem Assessment Form. As they read, ask reviewers to check that each line describes the color through a different sense, that limited visual comparisons have been used, and that similes are used in each line. Reviewers can also make suggestions for stronger word choice as appropriate. Ask students to record their comments and feedback on the form.
Following peer review, ask students to assess their own work, using the appropriate section of the Color Poem Assessment Form.
If desired, you can discuss stanzas and line breaks in poems, using What Makes Poetry? Exploring Line Breaks, as a mini-lesson.
Finally, students should make any necessary revisions before writing a final copy of the poem.
Session Four: Publishing
Provide supplies for students to publish their poems during the first half of this class session.
Demonstrate the Printing Press Student Interactive for students, showing the pertinent options. Alternately, students to write their final copy of the color poem in the same color ink as their topic and mounting it on poster board or students can word process their poems and print using colored ink.
Ask students to print at least three copies of their work (one for themselves, one for you to respond to, and one for the school or public library). If class resources allow, additional copies can be made to share with interested students in the class.
This will be a busy, active session so ensure that students understand the products they are to submit by the end of the class before releasing them to work on their final copies in their groups.
Allow students the remainder of the class to print copies of their own pages for their booklets and flyers.
If possible, schedule an additional class session where students can share their brochures or flyers with the class.
Extensions
On the poster board with their poems, students can add scraps of material that match their topic color. Try to obtain a wide variety of textured materials such as corduroy, silk, cotton, flannel, wallpaper samples, corrugated paper, carpet samples, etc. This will provide a textured backing to enhance their color poem.

Share additional books about color poetry with students, such as Out of the Blue: Poems About Color by Hiawyn Oram and David McKee (Disney, 1993) or What Is Pink: A Poem About Colors by Christina Rossetti and Judith Hoffman Corwin (HarperFestival, 2000).

Monitor student progress during the lesson and as students work independently through anecdotal notetaking and kidwatching. Look in particular for students’ ability to connect to multiple senses and their connection of sensory images to words in metaphor and simile. For more formal assessment, use the Color Poem Assessment form, which is filled out by Peer reviewer, Writer and Teacher. Finally, nothing is as useful as the feedback that students will receive by sharing their color poems with their peers. Informal feedback from students who read and review the poems is excellent for students.

The spelling "Sukarno" has been official in Indonesia since 1947 but the older spelling Soekarno is still frequently used, mainly because he signed his name in the old spelling. Official Indonesian presidential decrees from the period 1947-1968, however, printed his name using the 1947 spelling.

Indonesians also remember him as Bung Karno or Pak Karno.Like many Javanese people, he had only one name; in religious contexts, he was occasionally referred to as 'Achmad Sukarno'.

Background

The son of a Javanese primary school teacher, an aristocrat named Raden Soekemi Sosrodihardjo and his Balinese wife named Ida Ayu Nyoman Rai from Buleleng regency, Sukarno was born as Kusno Sosrodihardjo in Blitar, East Java in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia). Following Javanese custom, he was renamed after a childhood illness. He was admitted into a Dutch-run school as a child. When his father sent him to Surabaya in 1916 to attend a secondary school, he met Tjokroaminoto, a future nationalist. In 1921 he began to study at the Technische Hogeschool (Technical Institute) in Bandung. He studied civil engineering and focused on architecture.

Atypically, even among the colony's small educated elite, Sukarno was fluent in several languages. In addition to the Javanese language of his childhood, he was a master of Sundanese, Balinese and of Indonesian, and especially strong in Dutch. He was also quite comfortable in German, English, French, Arabic, and Japanese, all of which were taught at his HBS. He was helped by his photographic memory and precocious mind.[3] Sukarno once remarked that when he was studying in Surabaya, he often sat behind the screen in movie theaters reading the Dutch subtitles in reverse because the front seats were only for elite Dutch people.

In his studies, Sukarno was "intensely modern," both in architecture and in politics. Sukarno interpreted these ideas in his dress, in his urban planning for the capital (eventually Jakarta), and in his socialist politics, though he did not extend his taste for modern art to pop music; he had Koes Plus imprisoned for their allegedly decadent lyrics despite his reputation for womanising. For Sukarno, modernity was blind to race, neat and Western in style, and anti-imperialist.

Sukarno became a leader of a pro-independence party, Partai Nasional Indonesia, when it was founded in 1927. He opposed imperialism and capitalism because he thought both systems worsened the life of Indonesian people.

He also hoped that Japan would commence a war against the western powers and that Java could then gain its independence with Japan's aid. He was arrested in 1929 by Dutch colonial authorities and sentenced to two years in prison. By the time he was released, he had become a popular hero. He was arrested several times during the 1930s and was in jail when Japan occupied the archipelago in 1942.

In early 1929, during the so-called Indonesian National Revival, Sukarno and fellow Indonesian nationalist leader Mohammad Hatta (later Vice President), first foresaw a Pacific War and the opportunity that a Japanese advance on Indonesia might present for the Indonesian independence cause. In February 1942 Imperial Japan invaded the Dutch East Indies quickly over-running outmatched Dutch forces who marched, bussed and trucked Sukarno three hundred kilometres to Padang, Sumatra. They intended keeping him prisoner, but abruptly abandoned him to save themselves.

The Japanese had their own files on Sukarno and approached him with respect wanting to use him to organise and pacify the Indonesians. Sukarno on the other hand wanted to use the Japanese to free Indonesia: "The Lord be praised, God showed me the way; in that valley of the Ngarai I said: Yes, Independent Indonesia can only be achieved with Dai Nippon...For the first time in all my life, I saw myself in the mirror of Asia."

Subsequently, indigenous forces across both Sumatra and Java aided the Japanese against the Dutch but would not cooperate in the supply of the aviation fuel which was essential for the Japanese war effort. Desperate for local support in supplying the volatile cargo, Japan now brought Sukarno back to Jakarta. He helped the Japanese in obtaining its aviation fuel and labor conscripts, called sukarela in Indonesian and Romusha in Japanese. Sukarno was lastingly ashamed of his role with the romusha.[8] He also was involved with Peta and Heiho (Javanese volunteer army troops) via speeches broadcast on the Japanese radio and loud speaker networks across Java. By mid-1945 these units numbered around two million, and were preparing to defeat any Allied forces sent to re-take Java.

On November 10, 1943 Sukarno was decorated by the Emperor of Japan in Tokyo. He also became head of Badan Penyelidik Usaha Persiapan Kemerdekaan Indonesia (BPUPKI), the Japanese-organized committee through which Indonesian independence was later gained. On 7 September 1944, with the war going badly for the Japanese, Prime Minister Koiso promised independence for Indonesia, although no date was set.[9] This announcement was seen as immense vindication for Sukarno's apparent collaboration with the Japanese.

Following the Japanese surrender, Sukarno, Mohammad Hatta, and Dr. Radjiman Wediodiningrat were summoned by Marshal Terauchi, Commander-in-Chief of Japan's Southern Expeditionary Forces in Saigon. Sukarno initially hesitated in declaring Indonesia's independence. He and Mohammad Hatta were kidnapped by Indonesian youth groups to Rengasdengklok, west of Jakarta. Finally Sukarno and Hatta declared the independence of the Republic of Indonesia on August 17, 1945.

Sukarno's vision for the 1945 Indonesian constitution comprised the Pancasila (Sanskrit - five principles). Sukarno's political philosophy, Marhaenism, was guided by (in no particular order) elements of Marxism, nationalism and Islam. This is reflected in the Pancasila, in the order in which he originally espoused them in a speech on June 1, 19451:
Nationalism (with a focus on national unity)
Internationalism ('one nation sovereign amongst equals')
Representative democracy (all significant groups represented)
Social Justice (Marxist influenced)
Theism (with a secular slant)

In the same speech, he argued that all of the principles of the nation could be summarized in the phrase gotong royong.[11] The Indonesian parliament, founded on the basis of this original (and subsequently revised) constitution, proved all but ungovernable. This was due to irreconcilable differences between various social, political, religious and ethnic factions2.

Sukarno's government initially postponed the formation of a national army, for fear of antagonizing the Allied occupation forces and their doubt over whether they would have been able to form an adequate military apparatus to maintain control of seized territory. The various militia groups at that time were encouraged to join the BKR -- Badan Keamanan Rakyat (The People's Security Organization) -- itself a subordinate of the "War Victims Assistance Organization". It was only in October 1945 that the BKR was reformed into the TKR -- Tentara Keamanan Rakyat (The People's Security Army) in response to the increasing Dutch presence in Indonesia. In the ensuing chaos between various factions and Dutch attempts to re-establish colonial control, Dutch troops captured Sukarno in December 1948, but were forced to release him after the ceasefire. He returned to Jakarta in December 28, 1949. At this time, Indonesia adopted a new federal constitution that made the country a federal state. This was replaced by another provisional constitution in 1950 that restored a unitary form of government. Both constitutions were parliamentary in nature, which--on paper--limited presidential power. However, even with his formally reduced role, he commanded a good deal of moral authority as Father of the Nation.

Sukarno's government was not universally accepted in Indonesia. Indeed, many factions and regions attempted to separate themselves from his government, and there were several internal conflicts even during the period of armed insurgency against the Dutch. One such example is the leftist-backed coup attempt by elements of the military in Madiun, East Java in 1948, in which many supporters of communism were allegedly executed.

There were further attempts of military coups against Sukarno in 1956, including the PRRI-Permesta rebellion in Sulawesi supported by the CIA, during which an American aviator, Allen Lawrence Pope, operating in support of the rebels was shot down and captured. 6

'Guided Democracy' and increasing autocracy

Sukarno resented his figurehead position and used the increasing disorder to intervene more in the country's political life. Claiming Western-style democracy was unsuitable for Indonesia, he called for a system of "guided democracy" based on what he called traditional Indonesian principles. The Indonesian way of deciding important questions, he argued, was by way of prolonged deliberation designed to achieve a consensus. He proposed a government based not only on political parties but on "functional groups" composed of the nation's basic elements, in which a national consensus could express itself under presidential guidance.

During this later part of his presidency, Sukarno came to increasingly rely on the army and the support of the Communist Party of Indonesia (PKI).

In the 1950s he increased his ties to China and admitted more communists into his government. He also began to accept increasing amounts of Soviet bloc military aid. This aid, however, was surpassed by military aid from the Eisenhower Administration, which worried about a leftward drift should Sukarno rely too much on Soviet bloc aid. However, Sukarno increasingly attempted to forge a new alliance called the "New Emerging Forces", as a counter to the old superpowers, whom he accused of spreading "Neo-Colonialism, Colonialism and Imperialism" (NEKOLIM). His political alliances gradually shifted towards Asian powers such as the PRC and North Korea. In 1961, this first president of Indonesia also found another political alliance, an organization, called the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM, in Indonesia known as Gerakan Non-Blok, GNB) with Egypt's President Gamal Abdel Nasser, India's Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Yugoslavia's President Josip Broz Tito, and Ghana's President Kwame Nkrumah, in an action called The Initiative of Five (Sukarno, Nkrumah, Nasser, Tito, and Nehru). This action was a movement to not give any favour to the two superpower blocs, who were involved in the Cold War.

The Bandung Conference was held in 1955, with the goal of uniting developing Asian and African countries into a non-aligned movement to counter against the competing superpowers at the time. In order to increase Indonesia's prestige, Sukarno supported and won the bid for the 1962 Asian Games held in Jakarta. Many sporting facilities such as the Senayan sports complex (now Bung Karno Stadium), and supporting infrastructure were built to accommodate the games. There was political tension when the Indonesians refused the entry of delegations from Israel and Taiwan.

On November 30, 1957, an assassination attempt was made by grenade attack against Sukarno when he was visiting a school in Cikini, Central Jakarta. Six children were killed, but Sukarno did not suffer any serious wounds. In December he ordered the nationalization of 246 Dutch businesses. In February he began a crackdown on the PRRI rebels at Bukittinggi.

These PRRI rebels, a mix of anti-communist and Islamic movements, received arms and aid from Western sources, including the CIA, until J. Allan Pope, an American pilot, was shot down after a bombing raid in northern Indonesia in 1958. The CIA sent arms to rebel movements on Sumatra as well as Sulawesi. The downing of this pilot, together with impressive victories of government forces against the PRRI, evoked a shift in US policy, leading to closer ties with Sukarno as well as Major General Abdul Haris Nasution, the head of the army and the most powerful anti-communist in the Jakarta government.

Sukarno also established government control over media and book publishing as well as laws discriminating against Chinese permanent residents (China Totok). On July 5, 1959 he reestablished the 1945 constitution by presidential edict. It established a presidential system which he believed would make it easier to implement the principles of guided democracy. He called the system Manifesto Politik or Manipol--but was actually government by decree. He sent his opponents to internal exile.

In March 1960 Sukarno dissolved the elected Assembly (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat) and replaced it with an appointed Assembly--the Gotong Royong Parliament.

In August Sukarno broke off diplomatic relations with the Netherlands over Dutch New Guinea (West Papua.) After West Papua declared itself independent in December 1961, Sukarno ordered raids on West Irian (Dutch New Guinea). There were more assassination attempts when he visited Sulawesi in 1962. West Irian was brought under Indonesian authority in May 1963 under the Bunker Plan.

In July of the same year People's Consultative Assembly (Majelis Permusyawaratan Rakyat) proclaimed Sukarno as President for Life.

Sukarno also opposed the British-supported Federation of Malaysia, claiming that it was a neocolonial plot to advance British interests. In spite of his political overtures, which was partly justified when some political elements in British Borneo territories Sarawak and Brunei opposed the Federation plan and aligned themselves with Sukarno, Malaysia was proclaimed in September 1963. This led to the Indonesia-Malaysia confrontation (Konfrontasi) and the end of remaining US military aid to Indonesia. Sukarno withdrew Indonesia from the UN membership in 1965 when, with US backing, the nascent Federation of Malaysia took a seat of UN Security Council. Sukarno's increasing illness was demonstrated when he collapsed in public in August 9, 1965, and he was secretly diagnosed with kidney disease.

Removal from power

On the night of 30 September 1965, six of Indonesia's most senior generals were killed by a movement calling themselves the "30 September Movement (G30S)." With much of its senior leadership killed or missing, Major General Suharto, commander of the Army's strategic reserves, took control of the army the following morning.[12] Suharto issued an ultimatum to the Halim Air Force Base, where the G30S had based themselves and where Sukarno (the reasons for his presence are unclear and were subject of claim and counter-claim), Air Marshal Omar Dhani and Aidit had gathered. By the following day, it was clear that the incompetently organised and poorly coordinated coup had failed.[13] By 2 October, Suharto's faction was firmly in control of the army. Sukarno's obedience to Suharto's 1 October ultimatum to leave Halim is seen as changing all power relationships.[14] Sukarno's fragile balance of power between the military, political Islam, communists, and nationalists that underlay his "Guided Democracy" was now collapsing.

In early October, a military propaganda campaign began to sweep the country, successfully convincing both Indonesian and international audiences that it was a Communist coup, and that the murders were cowardly atrocities against Indonesian heroes.[15] The PKI's denials of involvement had little effect.[16] The army led campaign to purge Indonesian society, government and armed forces of the communist party and other leftist organisations. Leading PKI members were immediately arrested, some summarily executed.[15] The purge quickly spread from Jakarta to the rest of the country, and the worst massacres were in Java and Bali.[16] (see: Indonesian killings of 1965–66) The situation varied across the country; in some areas the army organised civilian groups and local militias, in other areas communal vigilante action preceded the army.[17] The most widely accepted estimates are that at least half a million were killed.[18] Many others were also imprisoned and for the next ten years people were still being imprisoned as suspects. It is thought that as many as 1.5m were imprisoned at one stage or another.

As a result of the purge, one of Sukarno's three pillars of support, the Indonesian Communist Party, had been effectively eliminated by the other two, the military and political Islam, although of the two, the military were in the position of unchallenged power. The killings and the failure of his tenuous "revolution" distressed Sukarno and he tried unsuccessfully to maintain his influence appealing in a January 1966 broadcast for the the country to follow him. Subandrio sought to create a Sukarnoist colum (Barisan Sukarno), which was undermined by Suharto's pledge of loyalty to Sukarno and the concurrent instruction for all those loyal to Sukarno to announce their support for the army.[20] In February, Sukarno reshuffled his cabinet, sacking Nasution as Defence Minister and abolishing his position of armed forces chief of staff, but Nasution refused to step down.

On March 11, 1966, Suharto and his supporters in the military forced Sukarno to issue a Presidential Order called Supersemar (Surat Perintah Sebelas Maret -- The March 11 Order), in which Sukarno gave orders to Suharto only to restore peace and order, not to transfer of power to him. After obtaining the Presidential Order, Suharto had the PKI declared illegal and the party was abolished. He also arrested many high ranking officials that were loyal to Sukarno on the charge of being PKI members and/or sympathizers, further reducing Sukarno's political power and influence.

Sukarno was stripped of his presidential title by Majelis Permusyawaratan Rakyat Sementara (Provisional Peoples Representative Assembly) on March 12, 1967, led by his former ally, Nasution, and remained under house arrest until his death at age 69 in Jakarta in 1970. He was buried in Blitar, East Java, Indonesia. In recent decades, his grave has been a significant venue in the network of places that Javanese visit on ziarah and for some is of equal significance to those of the Wali Songo.

While the semi-official version of the events of 1965-1966 claims that the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI) ordered the murders of the six generals, others blame Sukarno, and still others believe Suharto orchestrated the assassinations to remove potential rivals for the presidency.

Family

Sukarno officially married nine wives, namely Oetari, Inggit Garnasih, Fatmawati, Hartini, , Kartini Manoppo, Ratna Sari Dewi Soekarno, Haryati, Yurike Sanger and Heldy Djafar. Megawati Sukarnoputri, who served as the fifth president of Indonesia, is his daughter by his wife Fatmawati. Her younger brother Guruh Sukarnoputra (born 1953) has inherited Sukarno's artistic bent and is a choreographer and songwriter, who made a movie Untukmu, Indonesiaku (For You, My Indonesia) about Indonesian culture. He is also a member of the Indonesian People's Representative Council for Megawati's Indonesian Democratic Party – Struggle. His siblings Guntur Sukarnoputra, Rachmawati Sukarnoputri and Sukmawati Sukarnoputri have all been active in politics. Sukarno had a daughter named Kartika by Dewi Sukarno. [22] In 2006 Kartika Sukarno married Frits Seegers, the Netherlands-born chief executive officer of the Barclays Global Retail and Commercial Bank. [23] Other offspring include Taufan and Bayu by his wife Hartini, and a son named Toto Suryawan Soekarnoputra (born 1967, in Germany), by his wife Kartini Manoppo. Popular ladies' magazines such as Femina and Kartini regularly run features about newly discovered lookalike sons and daughters throughout the archipelago, who often miraculously disappear when pressed to take a DNA test by the official Sukarno children.

The Supersemar, the Indonesian abbreviation for Surat Perintah Sebelas Maret (Order of March the Eleventh) was a document ostensibly signed by the Indonesian President Sukarno on March 11, 1966, giving the Army commander Lt. Gen. Suharto authority to take whatever measures he "deemed necessary" to restore order to the chaotic situation during the Indonesian killings of 1965–66.Background One version of the documentOn September 30, 1965, a group calling itself the 30 September Movement killed six senior Army generals, seized control of the center of Jakarta and issued a number of decrees over Republic of Indonesia Radio. Suharto and his allies defeated the movement, but Sukarno was fatally weakened. Suharto changed the composition of the Provisional People's Consultative Assembly (MPRS), and in March 1967 it voted to strip Sukarno of his powers and appointed Suharto acting president. Panggabean, second assistant to the Army minister, pointing their pistols at Sukarno. M. Jusuf and others have denied this, and that Panggabean was even present. They called into doubt the credibility of key parts of the accusations, and said it was impossible for the two men to be so close to the president at the time.The disappearance of the originalOne of the most obvious oddities regarding the Supersemar is that the original document can no longer be traced. Saleh planned to make copies of the order and distribute them to loyal members of the palace guard and to Sukarno's young followers. Hanafi says 5,000 copies were made, and that he took a few back to Jakarta with him, but he does not know what happened to the others.In the official biography of Suharto, also say that Sukarno questioned Suharto's use of the Supersemar and sent Leimena to ask Suharto to take responsibility for his actions.[9] Saelan, deputy commander of the presidential guard says Suharto ignored the order[10], and Hanafi says that Suharto sent a message back via Leimena, who returned to Bogor later that evening, saying he would take responsibility for his actions, and that he was unable to come to Bogor as he was due to attend a meeting of all the military commanders at 11am the following day, to which he invited Sukarno. Incidentally, Hanafi is ambiguous as to the dates in his account, as he says he was in Bogor on March 12, but the "correction" to the Supersemar was known as the Order of March 13.

THE DEVIL

THE peasant was standing opposite the doctor, by the bedside of the dying old woman, and she, calmly resigned and quite lucid, looked at them and listened to their talking. She was going to die, and she did not rebel at it, for her life was over -- she was ninety-two.

The July sun streamed in at the window and through the open door and cast its hot flames on to the uneven brown clay floor, which had been stamped down by four generations of clodhoppers. The smell of the fields came in also, driven by the brisk wind, and parched by the noontide heat. The grasshoppers chirped themselves hoarse, filling the air with their shrill noise, like that of the wooden crickets which are sold to children at fair time.

The doctor raised his voice and said: ``Honoré, you cannot leave your mother in this state; she may die at any moment.'' And the peasant, in great distress, replied: ``But I must get in my wheat, for it has been lying on the ground a long time, and the weather is just right for it; what do you say about

it, mother?'' And the dying woman, still possessed by her Norman avariciousness, replied yes with her eyes and her forehead, and so urged her son to get in his wheat, and to leave her to die alone. But the doctor got angry, and stamping his foot he said: ``You are no better than a brute, do you hear, and I will not allow you to do it. Do you understand? And if you must get in your wheat to-day, go and fetch Rapet's wife and make her look after your mother. I will have it. And if you do not obey me, I will let you die like a dog, when you are ill in your turn; do you hear me?''

The peasant, a tall, thin fellow with slow movements, who was tormented by indecision, by his fear of the doctor and his keen love of saving, hesitated, calculated, and stammered out: ``How much does La Rapet charge for attending sick people?''

``How should I know?'' the doctor cried. ``That depends upon how long she is wanted for. Settle it with her, by Jove! But I want her to be here within an hour, do you hear.''

So the man made up his mind. ``I will go for her,'' he replied; ``don't get angry, doctor.'' And the latter left, calling out as he went: ``Take care, you know, for I do not joke when I am angry!'' And as soon as they were alone, the peasant turned to his mother, and said in a resigned voice: ``I will go and fetch La Rapet, as the man will have it. Don't go off while I am away.''

And he went out in his turn.

La Rapet, who was an old washerwoman, watched the dead and the dying of the neighborhood, and then,

as soon as she had sewn her customers into that linen cloth from which they would emerge no more, she went and took up her irons to smooth the linen of the living. Wrinkled like a last year's apple, spiteful, envious, avaricious with a phenomenal avarice, bent double, as if she had been broken in half across the loins, by the constant movement of the iron over the linen, one might have said that she had a kind of monstrous and cynical affection for a death struggle. She never spoke of anything but of the people she had seen die, of the various kinds of deaths at which she had been present, and she related, with the greatest minuteness, details which were always the same, just like a sportsman talks of his shots.

When Honoré Bontemps entered her cottage, he found her preparing the starch for the collars of the village women, and he said: ``Good evening; I hope you are pretty well, Mother Rapet.''

She turned her head round to look at him and said: ``Fairly well, fairly well, and you?''

``Oh I as for me, I am as well as I could wish, but my mother is very sick.''

``Your mother?''

``Yes, my mother!''

``What's the matter with her?''

``She is going to turn up her toes, that's what's the matter with her!''

The old woman took her hands out of the water and asked with sudden sympathy: ``Is she as bad as all that?''

``The doctor says she will not last till morning.''

``Then she certainly is very bad!'' Honoré hesitated, for he wanted to make a few preliminary

remarks before coming to his proposal, but as he could hit upon nothing, he made up his mind suddenly.

``How much are you going to ask to stop with her till the end? You know that I am not rich, and I cannot even afford to keep a servant-girl. It is just that which has brought my poor mother to this state, too much work and fatigue! She used to work for ten, in spite of her ninety-two years. You don't find any made of that stuff nowadays!''

La Rapet answered gravely: ``There are two prices. Forty sous by day and three francs by night for the rich, and twenty sous by day, and forty by night for the others. You shall pay me the twenty and forty.'' But the peasant reflected, for he knew his mother well. He knew how tenacious of life, how vigorous and unyielding she was. He knew, too, that she might last another week, in spite of the doctor's opinion, and so he said resolutely: ``No, I would rather you would fix a price until the end. I will take my chance, one way or the other. The doctor says she will die very soon. If that happens, so much the better for you, and so much the worse for me, but if she holds out till to-morrow or longer, so much the better for me and so much the worse for you!''

The nurse looked at the man in astonishment, for she had never treated a death as a speculative job, and she hesitated, tempted by the idea of the possible gain. But almost immediately she suspected that he wanted to juggle her. ``I can say nothing until I have seen your mother,'' she replied.

``Then come with me and see her.''

She washed her hands, and went with him immediately. They did not speak on the road; she walked with short, hasty steps, while he strode on with his long legs, as if he were crossing a brook at every step. The cows lying down in the fields, overcome by the heat, raised their heads heavily and lowed feebly at the two passers-by, as if to ask them for some green grass.

When they got near the house, Honoré Bontemps murmured: ``Suppose it is all over?'' And the unconscious wish that it might be so showed itself in the sound of his voice.

But the old woman was not dead. She was lying on her back, on her wretched bed, her hands covered with a pink cotton counterpane, horribly thin, knotty paws, like some strange animal's, or like crabs' claws, hands closed by rheumatism, fatigue, and the work of nearly a century which she had accomplished.

La Rapet went up to the bed and looked at the dying woman, felt her pulse, tapped her on the chest, listened to her breathing, and asked her questions, so as to hear her speak: then, having looked at her for some time longer, she went out of the room, followed by Honoré. His decided opinion was, that the old woman would not last out the night, and he asked: ``Well?'' And the sick-nurse replied: ``Well, she may last two days, perhaps three. You will have to give me six francs, everything included.''

``Six francs! six francs!'' he shouted. ``Are you out of your mind? I tell you that she cannot last more than five or six hours!'' And they disputed angrily for some time, but as the nurse said she would

go home, as the time was slipping away, and as his wheat would not come to the farmyard of its own accord, he agreed to her terms at last:

``Very well, then, that is settled; six francs including everything, until the corpse is taken out.''

``That is settled, six francs.''

And he went away, with long strides, to his wheat, which was lying on the ground under the hot sun which ripens the grain, while the sick-nurse returned to the house.

She had brought some work with her, for she worked without stopping by the side of the dead and dying, sometimes for herself, sometimes for the family, who employed her as seamstress also, paying her rather more in that capacity. Suddenly she asked:

``Have you received the last sacrament, Mother Bontemps?''

The old peasant woman said ``No'' with her head, and La Rapet, who was very devout, got up quickly: ``Good heavens, is it possible? I will go and fetch the curé''; and she rushed off to the parsonage so quickly, that the urchins in the street thought some accident had happened, when they saw her trotting off like that.

The priest came immediately in his surplice, preceded by a choir-boy, who rang a bell to announce the passage of the Host through the parched and quiet country. Some men, working at a distance, took off their large hats and remained motionless until the white vestment had disappeared behind some farm buildings; the women who were making up the

sheaves stood up to make the sign of the cross; the frightened black hens ran away along the ditch until they reached a well-known hole through which they suddenly disappeared, while a foal, which was tied up in a meadow, took fright at the sight of the surplice and began to gallop round at the length of its rope, kicking violently. The choir-boy, in his red cassock, walked quickly, and the priest, the square biretta on his bowed head, followed him, muttering some prayers. Last of all came La Rapet, bent almost double, as if she wished to prostrate herself; she walked with folded hands, as if she were in church.

Honoré saw them pass in the distance, and he asked: ``Where is our priest going to?'' And his man, who was more acute, replied: ``He is taking the sacrament to your mother, of course!''

The peasant was not surprised and said: ``That is quite possible,'' and went on with his work.

Mother Bontemps confessed, received absolution and extreme unction, and the priest took his departure, leaving the two women alone in the suffocating cottage. La Rapet began to look at the dying woman, and to ask herself whether it could last much longer.

The day was on the wane, and a cooler air came in stronger puffs, making a view of Epinal, which was fastened to the wall by two pins, flap up and down. The scanty window curtains, which had formerly been white, but were now yellow and covered with fly-specks, looked as it they were going to fly off, and seemed to struggle to get away, like the old woman's soul.

Lying motionless, with her eyes open, the old mother seemed to await the death which was so near, and which yet delayed its coming; with perfect indifference. Her short breath whistled in her throat. It would stop altogether soon, and there would be one woman less in the world, one whom nobody would regret.

At nightfall Honoré returned, and when he went up to the bed and saw that his mother was still alive he asked: ``How is she?'' just as he had done formerly, when she had been sick. Then he sent La Rapet away, saying to her: ``To-morrow morning at five o'clock, without fail.'' And she replied: ``To-morrow at five o'clock.''

She came at daybreak, and found Honoré eating his soup, which he had made himself, before going to work.

``Well, is your mother dead?'' asked the nurse.

``She is rather better, on the contrary,'' he replied! with a malignant look out of the corner of his eyes. Then he went out.

La Rapet was seized with anxiety, and went up to the dying woman, who was in the same state, lethargic and impassive, her eyes open and her hands clutching the counterpane. The nurse perceived that this might go on thus for two days, four days, eight days, even, and her avaricious mind was seized with fear. She was excited to fury against the cunning fellow who had tricked her, and against the woman who would not die.

Nevertheless, she began to sew and waited with her eyes fixed on the wrinkled face of Mother Bontemps. When Honoré returned to breakfast he seemed

quite satisfied, and even in a bantering humor, for he was carrying in his wheat under very favorable circumstances.

La Rapet was getting exasperated; every passing minute now seemed to her so much time and money stolen from her. She felt a mad inclination to choke this old ass, this headstrong old fool, this obstinate old wretch -- to stop that short, rapid breath, which was robbing her of her time and money, by squeezing her throat a little. But then she reflected on the danger of doing so, and other thoughts came into her head, so she went up to the bed and said to her: ``Have you ever seen the Devil?''

Mother Bontemps whispered: ``No.''

Then the sick-nurse began to talk and to tell her tales likely to terrify her weak and dying mind. ``Some minutes before one dies the Devil appears,'' she said, ``to all. He has a broom in his hand, a saucepan on his head and he utters loud cries. When anybody had seen him, all was over, and that person had only a few moments longer to live''; and she enumerated all those to whom the Devil had appeared that year: Josephine Loisel, Eulalie Ratier, Sophie Padagnau, Séraphine Grospied.

Mother Bontemps, who was at last most disturbed in mind, moved about, wrung her hands, and tried to turn her head to look at the other end of the room. Suddenly La Rapet disappeared at the foot of the bed. She took a sheet out of the cupboard and wrapped herself up in it; then she put the iron pot on to her head, so that its three short bent feet rose up like horns, took a broom in her right hand and a

tin pail in her left, which she threw up suddenly, so that it might fall to the ground noisily.

Certainly when it came down, it made a terrible noise. Then, climbing on to a chair, the nurse showed herself, gesticulating and uttering shrill cries into the pot which covered her face, while she menaced the old peasant woman, who was nearly dead, with her broom.

Terrified, with a mad look on her face, the dying woman made a superhuman effort to get up and escape; she even got her shoulders and chest out of bed; then she fell back with a deep sigh.

It is generally believed that the earliest inhabitants of the Indonesian archipelago originated in India or Burma. In 1890, fossils of Java man (homo erectus), some 500,000 years old, were found in east Java. Later migrants ('Malays') came from southern China and Indochina, and they began populating the archipelago around 3000 BC. Powerful groups such as the Buddhist Srivijaya Empire and the Hindu Mataram kingdom appeared in Java and Sumatra towards the end of the 7th century. The last important kingdom to remain Hindu was the Majapahit, which was founded in the 13th century. Powerful kingdoms rose in East Java after the decline of Central Java's power in the tenth century. Between 1055 and 1222, Kediri kingdom prospered and expanded. During the reign of King Erlangga both East Java and Bali enjoyed a lucrative trade with the surrounding islands and their arts flourished. About 1300 a.d, Majapahit dynasty began an empire that was to dominate the entire archipelago, the Malay Peninsula and part of the Philippines. Majapahit also established profitable trade relations with China and other countries of the South East Asian region. The subsequent spread of Islam into the archipelago in the 14th century forced the Majapahits to retreat to Bali in the 15th century.

By this time, a strong Muslim empire had developed with its centre at Melaka (Malacca) on the Malay Peninsula. Its influence was short lived and it fell to the Portuguese in 1511. The Dutch displaced the Portuguese and began making inroads into Indonesia. The Dutch East India Company based in Batavia (Jakarta) dominated the spice trade and took control of Java by the mid 18th century, when its power was already in decline. The Dutch took control in the early 19th century and by the early 20th century; the entire archipelago - including Aceh and Bali - was under their control. Magnificent mountain scenery include the crater and sea of sand at Mount Bromo, the "sulfur mountain" Welirang and rugged Dien Plateau. Little of the Majapahit Empire's former glory still stands in East Java today with the exception of temple ruins and some archaeological discoveries. East Java's claim to fame in modern history is its vanguard role in the struggle for independence against colonial forces in 1945.

Begin with a Photo.

If you like, you can right click on this image and use it. Bear in mind that the effect will appear different on images of different sizes. A larger image will produce finer lines.

The shadows are plugged up in this image so we will fix that right away.

If you have Photoshop CS or Photoshop Elements 3 Choose image>Adjustments>Shadow Highlight
Move the amount slider as high as it will go. The image may look a little too bright in places but that doesn't matter.

If you are using Photoshop 7 or less, choose the curves or levels setting to brighten the image.

Choose Filter>Stylize>Find Edges

All the edges will now become outlined. The color has gone a bit funky though. We'll fix that and finish the effect in the nex step.

Choose Edit>Fade Find Edges (This option will only be avaliable at this point, if you do anything else between Find Edges andd Fade, you won't be able to do this)

Change the blending mode to Luminosity. This will restore the colors (Don't close the dialog yet)

Here we have the image so far, with the original colors restored.

We will now blend this image with the original to get the result.

Reduce the Opacity slider until you are happy with the result. I used 33 for this image.

Semua tip dan trik di sini saya padukan menjadi 150 langkah mudah dan aman untuk dilakukan yang saya dapatkan dari berbagai sumber yang sangat banyak sekali. 150 tip dan trik, termasuk beberapa panduan langkah demi langkah yang mudah berikut ini, akan menjadikan komputer Anda lebih nyaman bekerja. Tentu saja, akhirnya, produktivitas Anda di depan komputer kian berkembang. Sebuah komputer yang nyaman saja belum cukup tanpa dibarengi peningkatan sisi keamanan. Hal ini penting, sebab koneksi ke jaringan, Internet maupun ke komputer lain, sedikit banyak pasti berisiko. Mulai dari penyebaran virus hingga pengambilan data kita oleh orang yang tidak berhak. Untuk itu, saya sertakan pula beberapa tip dasar untuk memperbaiki keamanan pada Windows. selanjutnya....

Beberapa tip dan trik maupun panduan langkah demi langkah dalam tulisan ini menggunakan bantuan program tertentu yang bisa di-download dari beberapa situs di Internet. Namun untuk memudahkan Anda, seperti biasa semua program yang disebutkan dalam tulisan berikut ini disertakan dalam CD PC Media. Tentu saja, semua program sudah diuji di labs PC Media.

Instalasi program yang ada dalam tulisan ini kebanyakan berasal dari situs resmi Microsoft. Sehingga kecil kemungkinannya program-program ini menyebabkan error di PC. Jadi jangan ragu, ikuti terus tip dan trik dasar pada Windows yang jarang terungkap.

Instalasi Windows yang Mudah dan Menyenangkan

01. Back-up dahulu registry sebelum diedit. Caranya, klik Start|Run, ketik regedit.

Setelah muncul window registry, pilih menu File|Export. Pada bagian Export range, pilih

All dan tentukan nama file, akhiri dengan klik tombol Save.

02. Banyak program yang sebenarnya terinstalasi dalam Windows, namun tidak aktif.

Untuk mengaktifkannya, masuk ke Control Panel|Add/Remove Windows Component dan

beri tanda centang pada program yang belum aktif.

03. Sebelum menginstalasi program baru atau melakukan perubahan setting Windows

secara keseluruhan, lebih baik buat Restore Point secara manual dahulu. Caranya, Klik

Start|All Programs|Accessories|System Tool|System Restore dan klik Create a restore

point.

04. Jika Anda memutuskan untuk menginstalasi Windows Update yang sebelumnya

sudah didecline, masuk ke Control Panel|System, pilih tab Automatic Updates dan klik

Restore Declined Updates.

05. Untuk mengatur Windows update berjalan sesuai dengan kebutuhan Anda, atur dulu

Windows Update. Caranya, buka System di Control Panel dan klik tab Automatic

Updates. Atur enable atau disable option Keep my computer up to date.

06. Bila Anda tidak memiliki CD bootable, jangan khawatir. Microsoft sudah

menyediakan

tool gratis untuk membuat disket booting di http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=310994.

07. Jika saat instalasi Windows tiba-tiba terhenti, matikan komputer dan lepas card

tambahan. Misalnya sound card. Instal ulang dan pasang kembali card setelah instalasi

selesai.

08. Untuk menambahkan System Administration Tools ada Start Menu, klik kanan

Start|Properties. Masuk dalam tab Start Menu dan klik Customize kemudian masuk

dalam tab Advanced. Geser ke bawah dan beri tanda centang pada option Display on the

All Programs and the Start Menu.

09. Untuk menginstal Back up Utility pada Windows XP Home Edition carilah file

ntbackup.msi di direktori\valudeadd\msft\ntbackup\ di CD instalasi Windows XP.

Jalankan file tersebut dan ikuti langkahlangkahnya.

10. Windows XP secara otomatis akan me-highlight setiap program baru yang ter-install.

Cara menghilangkannya, klik kanan Start|Properties. Masuk ke tab Start

Menu|Customize, kemudian klik tab Advanced dan hilangkan tanda centang pada opsi

Highlight newly installed program.

11. Untuk tampilan film atau game terbaik pada komputer, pastikan bahwa DirextX

terbaru sudah terinstalasi dengan baik. Lihat versi terbarunya di

www.microsoft.com/windows/directx.

12. Ada kalanya hardware yang akan dipasang belum support Plug-and-Play. Untuk itu,

gunakan Add Hardware Wizard yang ada di Control Panel|System|Hardware untuk

mendeteksinya.

Mempercepat Kerja Komputer

13. Sebenarnya hanya dibutuhkan waktu tidak lebih dari 2 menit saja untuk masuk ke

Windows sejak komputer dihidupkan. Namun, kadang terasa sangat lama. Untuk

mempercepat loading Windows, ada beberapa hal yang bisa dilakukan. Misalnya,

mengurangi icon di desktop serta tidak menggunakan wallpaper yang memakan banyak

memory. Ganti wallpaper dengan background berwarna, serta gunakan Desktop Cleanup

Wizard yang ada bisa ditemui dengan klik kanan pada desktop untuk membersihkan

icon. Jangan lupa juga, jalankan defrag secara berkala.

Jika Anda sering menambah atau mengurangi program di komputer, bersihkan registry

secara rutin. Gunakan software bantu seperti Registry Mechanic dari situs

www.winguides.com. Sayangnya, versi trial program ini hanya bisa digunakan

memperbaiki sebanyak 6 sections saja.

Langkah lain yang perlu dilakukan adalah me-remove program yang di-load secara

otomatis saat memulai Windows. Tentu saja, hanya program-program yang tidak

dibutuhkan. Caranya, dengan menghapus semua isi folder startup dan membuka msconfig

melalui Start|Run.

14. Gunakan fitur File and Transfer Setting Wizard untuk memindahkan file dan setting

ke komputer baru. Caranya, klik Start|AllPrograms|Accessories|System Tools, kemudian

jalankan File and Transfer Setting Wizard.

15. Gunakan pengecualian pada security setting di Internet Explorer, agar proses update

melalui halaman Windows Update berjalan lancar. Caranya, buka Internet Option di

menu Tools pada Internet Explorer. Klik tab Security, pilih Trusted Site dan klik tombol

Sites. Isikan nama situs Windows Update, hilangkan tanda centang pada option Require

server verification… dan klik OK.

16. Jika Anda kehilangan serial number Windows XP, gunakan freeware Magical Jelly

Bean Keyfinder dari http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml.

17. Jika nama yang teregister dalam Windows XP Anda tidak sesuai, perbaiki melalui

registry. Caranya, buka registry dan pilih MY Computer. Klik menu Edit|Find dan ketik

RegOwner. Jika sudah ditemukan, klik kanan, pilih Modify dan isikan nama yang sesuai.

Perubahan ini bisa juga dilakukan di key RegCompany.

Peningkatan Performa Internet dan Jaringan

18. Untuk men-share sebuah folder di komputer Anda ke jaringan, klik kanan folder

tersebut dan pilih Properties. Klik tab Sharing dan enable option Share this folder on the

network. Beri nama dan klik OK.

19. Buat sebuah icon My Network Places di desktop dengan mengklik kanan area kosong

di dekstop dan klik Properties. Pilih tab Desktop|Customize Desktop. Kemudian buka tab

General dan enable option My Network Places.

20. Ada cara mudah mengirim pesan ke komputer lain di jaringan, yakni menggunakan

Console Message. Buka Control Panel|AdministrativeTools|Computer

Management|Action|All Task|Send Console Message. Ketik teks yang hendak dikirim,

tambahkan nama komputer yang hendak dituju dan klik Send.

21. Untuk mengatur Internet Connection Firewall (ICF), buka Network Connection di

Control Panel, klik kanan koneksi yang ada dan klik Properties. Buka tab Advanced dan

enable option Protect my computer and network by limitting or preventing access to this

computer from Internet.

22. Atur Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) untuk setiap koneksi yang ada. Baik dial-up

maupun broadband. Jika komputer Anda merupakan bagian dari jaringan yang terhubung

ke Internet, pasang ICF hanya di komputer server.

23. Untuk mengetahui alamat IP Anda, masuk dalam DOS dengan mengetikkan

command di Run. Kemudian ketikkan ipconfig /all.

24. Jika Anda menerima pesan dari Internet melalui Messenger, segera matikan. Caranya,

masuk ke Contol Panel|Administrative Tools|Services, dan klik ganda Messenger

kemudian Stop. Untuk mencegah supaya tidak terulang, atur supaya Messenger menjadi

Disabled di bagian Startup.

25. Matikan Windows Messenger dengan melalui regedit. Buka

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft, kemudian pilih menu

Edit|New|Key, dan beri nama Messenger. Kemudian buat key lagi dengan cara ini di

dalam direktori Messenger dengan nama key-nya Client. Setelah itu, klik menu

Edit|New|DWORD Value, dan beri nama Prevent-Run. Klik kanan value PreventRun,

pilih Modify, isi angka 1 pada Value data, dan klik OK.

26. Untuk mengetahui informasi mengenai koneksi di komputer Anda, klik Start|All

Programs|Accessories|System Tools|System Information. Pilih menu Tools|Net

Diagnostics. Pada window yang terbuka kemudian pilih option Scan your system.

Tunggu hingga proses selesai untuk melihat hasilnya.

27. Lindungi privasi dengan mencegah aplikasi Windows Media Player mengirim data

mengenai komputer dan kebiasaan Anda menggunakan komputer melalui Internet ke

alamat-alamat tertentu. Caranya mudah, Pada Windows Media Player, pilih menu

Tools|Option. Buka tab Player dan disable option Aloww internet sites to uniquely your

player.

28. Untuk mengunci komputer yang berada dalam sebuah network domain, tekan tombol

Ctrl + Alt + Del bersamaan dan klik option Lock Computer. Untuk membuka kembali,

tekan tombol Ctrl + Alt + Deldan masukkan password. Konfigurasi Windows yang

Mudah dan Cepat.

29. Untuk men-disable fitur autorun, klik kanan pada icon drive CD, pilih Properties dan

masuk dalam tab AutoPlay. Kemudian disable autoplay untuk setiap jenis file yang

tertera pada daftar.

30. Gunakan program Microsoft Clear Type Tuning Control dari

http://www.microsoft.com/typography/cleartype/ untuk mengatur Clear Type pada

komputer.

31. Untuk melihat system file yang secara default di-hidden oleh Windows XP, pilih tab

View dalam menu Tool|Folder Option dalam Windows Explorer. Enable Display the

content of system folder.

32. Untuk meletakkan icon volume control di taskbar, masuk dalam Control Panel|Sound

and Audio dan klik tab Volume. Enable Place volume control in the Taskbar dan klik

OK.

33. Atur tombol Power di keyboard melalui Control Panel|Power Option di tab

Advanced. Tentukan pengaturan tombol Power ini dengan memilih option yang tersedia.

34. Atur supaya Windows membersihkan Pagefile saat shut down demi keamanan.

Caranya, buka registry dan masuk dalam direktori

HKEY_LOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control|Session Manager. Edit

value pada key Clear-PageFileAtShutdown menjadi 1. Konsekuensinya, proses shut

down akan berlangsung sedikit lebih lama.

35. Atur supaya Windows menampilkan ekstensi setiap file. Caranya, di Windows

Explorer, pilih menu Tool|Folder Option dan tab View. Hilangkan tanda centang di

option Hide file extentions for known file types.

36. Menghapus Komponen yang Terinstal

Banyak komponen Windows yang tidak muncul di Add/Remove Windows Component

sehingga tidak bisa di-uninstall.

1. Buka Notepad dan pilih menu File|Open. Arahkan ke folder Windows\inf. Isi

nama file sysoc.inf. Klik Open untuk membuka file ini.

2. Pilih menu Edit|Replace. Ketik Hide pada kolom Find, namun kosongkan kolom

Replace With, klik Replace All. Tujuannya untuk menghapus semua kata Hide

dalam file ini. Setelah selesai, tutup dan simpan file.

3. Buka Control Panel dan pilih Add/Remove Programs. Kemudian pilih

Add/Remove Windows Component, pada windows yang keluar kemudian akan

tampak beberapa komponen yang sebelumnya tersembunyi.

37. Ubah gambar pada welcome screen dengan cara masuk ke User Account di Control

Panel. Buka account Anda dan klik Change my picture. Tentukan gambar pilihan Anda

dengan mengklik Browse untuk gambar di harddisk atau memilih di antara gambar yang

sudah tersedia.

38. Jika lebih menyukai tampilan Start Menu versi lama, Anda bisa mengubahnya dengan

mengklik kanan tombol Start, pilih Properties. Pilih Classic Start Menu dan klik

Customize untuk mengatur isinya.

39. Untuk menyempurnakan tampilan klasik pada Start Menu, klik kanan desktop dan

pilih Properties. Buka tab Themes, dan pilih Windows Classic dari Theme list.

40. Tambahkan image pada sebuah folder, sehingga image tersebut yang akan tampak

saat Windows Explorer dalam tampilan thumbnails. Caranya, klik kanan folder yang

hendak diolah, pilih Properties. Klik tab Customize dan klik Choose Picture. Pilih sebuah

gambar dan klik Open|OK.

41. Sesuaikan kapasitas Recycle Bin dengan mengklik kanan icon Recycle Bin dan

memilih

Properties. Isi kapasitas yang Anda inginkan dan klik OK.

42. Pada saat View di-set Details di Windows Explorer, klik kanan header salah satu

kolom untukmengatur kolom apa saja yang ditampilkan. Klik More bila perlu mengatur

setting lainnya.

43. Untuk menambahkan program yang paling sering Anda gunakan dalam Quick

Launch, drag icon program tersebut dalam Quick Launch.

44. Tambahkan address bar pada taskbar, sehingga mempercepat akses ke sebuah alamat

di Internet. Caranya, klik kanan taskbar, pilih Toolbar|Address. Klik ganda untuk

membuka dan menutupnya.

45. Jadikan tampilan Windows Explorer seperti tampilan pada window My Computer.

Caranya, klik kanan icon Window Explorer dan pilih Properties. Pada Target area,

setelah %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe tambahkan /n, /e, /select, C:\ dan klik OK.

46. Untuk menambahkan sebuah shortcut program di baris paling atas Start Menu, klik

kanan icon-nya di Start Menu kemudian klik Pin to Start Menu.

47. Supaya sebuah drive atau folder dapat masuk dalam menu Send To, drag shortcut-nya

ke folder \Documen Anda Setting\\SendTo.

48. Mencari folder SendTo? Klik saja Start|Run dan ketik SendTo kemudian klik OK.

49. Untuk mengosongkan daftar dokumen dalam folder My Recent Document di Start

Menu, klik kanan Start, pilih Properties. Klik Customize dan buka tab Advanced

kemudian klik tombol Clear list. Supaya tidak ada lagi yang muncul di My Recent

Documents, disable option List my most recently opened documents.

50. Fast User Switching

Dengan Fast User Switching, seorang user tidak perlu logoff sementara user lain login.

1. Untuk meng-enable Fast User Switching, masuk dalam Control Panel dan pilih

User Accounts. Klik option Change the way user log on or off, dan enable Use

Fast User Switching.

2. Supaya koneksi dial-up tetap berjalan meski Fast User Switching di-enable,

masuk ke registry di direktori

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersi

on\Winlogon.

3. Klik kanan pada panel sebelah kanan dan pilih New |String Value. Beri nama

KeepRasConnections dan beri nilai 1. Restart komputer.

51. Untuk melihat isi sesungguhnya folder My Recent Documents, klik Start|Run,

kemudian ketikkan %UserProfile%\Recent.

Pengaturan Multiple User

52. Untuk berpindah antar user account, tekan tombol Ctrl+Alt+Del, kemudian pada

window Task Manager yang terbuka, pilih tab Users. Klik kanan nama user yang hendak

dipakai dan klik tombol Connect.

53. Tambahkan account Guest supaya orang lain bisa menggunakan komputer Anda.

Caranya, buka User Accounts di Control Panel, klik Guest|Turn On the Guest Account.

54. Ingatlah untuk selalu login sebagai System Administrator sebelum melakukan

perubahan yang berimbas pada performa komputer.

55. Untuk meng-copy user profile, masuk dalam Control Panel|System. Masuk dalam tab

Advance dan klik tombol Setting di User Profiles. Sorot profile yang hendak dicopy,

kemudian klik Copy to dan tentukan lokasi penyimpanan profile. Untuk mengubah

permission, klik tombol Change.

56. Ganti Welcome screen dengan login dialog untuk menambah tingkat keamanan.

Caranya, masuk dalam User Accounts di Control Panel, pilih option Change the way user

log on or off serta disable Welcome screen.

57. Gunakan folder Shared Documents untuk menyimpan filefile yang bisa dibuka orang

lain dalam jaringan. Folder ini bisa ditemui di My Documents\Other Places area.

58. Pada Windows XP Pro Edition, password bisa kadaluarsa jika lama tidak digunakan

Caranya, klik Start|Run, ketikkan userpasswords2 dan Enter. Buka tab Advanced dan

pilih Advanced user management, klik tombol Advanced dan pilih Local Users and

Groups. Klik kanan nama user dan pilih Properties. Buka tab General dan enable option

Password never expires.

59. Beri nama setiap partisi atau drive yang ada dengan nama yang berbeda. Hal ini

penting untuk mempermudah pencarian file.

60. Buat sebuah password reset disk sebagai disket darurat saat kehilangan password.

Caranya, masuk ke Control Panel dan buka User Account. Pilih account Anda dan pilih

Prevent a forgotten password untuk memulai wizard.

Pengaturan File dan Folder

61. Buat sebuah compressed folder dengan cara mengklik kanan area kosong pada

desktop, dan pilih New|Compressed (zipped) Folder. Beri nama dan drag and drop file

yang hendak dikompres dalam folder tersebut.

62. Sebuah compressed folder bisa dilindungi dengan password. Caranya, buka menu

File|Add a Password. Isikan password Anda dan isi sekali lagi untuk konfirmasi.

63. Sebuah compressed folder tetap bisa ditambah isinya dengan cara drag and drop file

yang hendak dikompres ke dalamnya.

64. Saat menjalankan Disk Cleanup, pilih option Compress old files untuk mengompresi

file-file yang sudah tidak dibutuhkan, sehingga kapasitas harddisk bisa dihemat.

65. Enkrip atau acak file bisa dilakukan di Windows XP Pro Edition dengan mengklik

kanan My Computer, pilih Properties. Buka tab General dan klik Advanced. Aktifkan

option Encrypt contents to secure data.

66. Cara termudah mengubah nama file atau folder adalah dengan memilihnya, kemudian

menekan tombol F2.

67. Supaya Anda bisa berpindah antar folder dengan cepat, terutama pada folder-folder

yang sering dibuka, buatlah shortcut untuk setiap folder yang sering diakses.

68. Reset file association dengan cara menhakan tombol Shift saat mengklik kanan

sebuah file. Pilih Open With… Pilih program yang hendak Anda gunakan untuk

membuka file tersebut dan enable option Open use the selected program to open this kind

of file. Kemudian klik OK.

69. Sesuaikan kapasitas penyimpanan file musik dengan cara membuka Windows Media

Player dan memilih menu Tools|Options. Buka tab Copy Music dan sesuaikan ukuran

kapasitas dengan menggeser slider.

70. Jika Anda menyimpan semua dokumen dalam folder My Documents, maka semua

file tersebut lebih mudah di-back-up serta tidak terpengaruh system restore.

71. Jika sebuah file hasil copy dari CD tidak dapat diakses, maka hilangkan atribut Read

only. Caranya, klik kanan file tersebut dan pilih Properties. Hilangkan tanda centang pada

option Read only.

72. Aturlah tampilan setiap folder dengan mengklik kanan folder tersebut pada My

Computer. Pilih Properties dan klik Customize. Pilih template yang tersedia atau pilih

gambar sesuai dengan keinginan Anda. Klik OK untuk menyimpan hasil setting.

73. Anda bisa me-rename beberapa file sekaligus yang memiliki karakter sama dalam

folder yang sama juga. Misalnya kumpulan foto atau image. Caranya, pilih semua file

yang hendak di-rename, klik kanan file pertama dan klik Rename. Beri nama,misalnya

Koleksi.JPG, maka semua file yang lain akan berubah namanya menjadi Koleksi (1).JPG,

Koleksi (2).JPG, dan seterusnya.

74. Mengirim Faks

Tahukah Anda, bahwa Windows XP memiliki tool untuk mengirim dan menerima faks?

1. Buka Control Panel, pilih Add/Remove Program dan klik Add/Remove Windows

Component. Enable Fax Services dan klik Next.

menjalankan Fax Configuration Wizard. Atur semua setting, termasuk nomor faks

dan modem yang digunakan serta pengaturan incoming fax.

3. Buat semua faks dari Fax Console. Periksa semua isi sebelum dikirim, termasuk

setting dan sebagainya.

Mengatur Kualitas Cetak

75. Anda bisa mencetak beberapa foto bersamaan, sekaligus mengatur layout serta option

lainnya dengan cara mudah. Pertama, buka file-file foto dalam folder My Pictures,

kemudian pilih menu File |Print. Akan muncul Photo Printing Wizard. Atur printer yang

hendak digunakan dan layout yang akan dipakai. Beberapa printer memungkinkan

mencetak beberapa foto dalam satu kertas.

76. Daripada harus mengatur setting printer setiap kali menggunakannya, buatlah copy

printer Anda. Atur masing-masing dengan option berbeda sesuai yang Anda butuhkan.

77. Anda bisa menggunakan karakter yang tidak ada di keyboard, namun bisa digunakan

dalam Windows dengan fitur Character Map. Untuk membukanya, Anda bisa

menemukan di Start|All Programs|Accessories|System Toolss|Character Map. Atau ketik

“charmap” tanpa tanda petik di Start|Run.

78. Untuk meng-capture sebuah adegan di file movie menjadi sebuah image, putarlah

film tersebut dan tekan tombol Stop saat adegan yang diinginkan. Klik Take Picture,

simpan di folder Anda dan beri nama.

Memunculkan Penampakan Fitur Tersembunyi

79. Anda tertarik dengan musik pembuka Windows yang orisinal? Temukan file-nya di

\windows\oobe\system32\images\tittle.wma.

80. Ada dua edisi Windows Plus! yang beredar, yakni Microsoft Plus! for Windows dan

Digital Media Edition (DME). Simak www.microsoft.com/windows/plus/PlusHome.asp

dan coba versi trial DME.

81. Ketikkan “iexpress” tanpa tanda petik pada kotak dialog Start|Run. Anda akan

menemukan sebuah utility untuk mengompres dan membuat file self extraction.

82. Anda akan menemukan beberapa tool yang kurang populer, namun punya kelebihan

luar biasa. Tool-tool tersebut bisa ditemui di folder support\tools dalam CD instalasi

Windows XP. Gunakan program suptools.msi untuk menginstalasi tool-tool tersebut

dalam komputer Anda.

83. Ada banyak wizard atau stepby-step di Windows. Untuk mengetahui wizard apa saja,

buka Help and Support dan ketikkan “Wizard” tanpa tanda petik pada kolom pencarian.

Windows akan memunculkan daftar wizard yang tersedia. Anda tinggal memilihnya.

84. Untuk membuat karakter sendiri, klik Start|Run dan ketikkan Eudcedit. Buat sesuai

keinginan Anda, asalakan masih dalam ukuran 64x64 grid. Simpan dengan memilih

menu Edit|Save Character.

85. Untuk meletakkan karakter dalam Character Map ke dalam dokumen, Anda cukup

membuka Character Map dan memilih karakter tersebut. Kemudian Anda tinggal

mengcopy dan paste-nya ke dalam dokumen Anda.

Menghias Desktop

86. Anda bisa mengatur pointer mouse sesuai keinginan dengan membuka tab Pointer

dalam menu Mouse di Control Panel. Klik Browse untuk mencari pointer yang sesuai

keinginan Anda.

87. Untuk menampilkan daftar dokumen yang terakhir diakses di Start Menu pada

Windows XP Home Edition, klik kanan pada tombol Start dan pilih Properties. Klik

Customize, buka tab Advanced dan enable option List my most recently opened

documents.

88. Jika Anda ingin agar tampilan Windows Explorer terbuka penuh hingga menutupi

taskbar, tekan tombol F11.

89. Anda bisa membuat shortcut key atau penekanan tombol tertentu untuk mengakses

sebuah program. Caranya, klik kanan icon program tersebut dan pilih Properties. Buka

Memperbaiki Kinerja Komputer

106. Tambah kecepatan komputer Anda dengan menghilangkan penampakan yang bagus

namun memakan banyak waktu, yakni animasi. Caranya, buka Control Panel, dan klik

ganda System. Klik tab Advanced dan tekan tombol Performance Settings. Kemudian

enable option Adjust for the best performance.

107. Untuk mengurangi waktu booting yang terasa lama, atur di BIOS agar booting

dimulai dari harddisk baru kemudian CD atau floppy drive pada pilihan berikutnya.

108. Atur supaya Windows hanya akan me-load program yang dibutuhkan saja saat mulai

berjalan supaya waktu loading lebih cepat dan kerja komputer lebih ringan. Ketikkan

110. Untuk meningkatkan kecepatan menyimpan data di USB ZIP drive, buka My

Turn Off. Pastikan dulu semua dokumen telah di-save.

113. Anda bisa melihat grafis yang menampilkan performance komputer berdasarkan

1. Untuk mengatur jadwal perawatan Windows secara berkala, buka Control Panel,

klik ganda Scheduled Tasks. Tambahkan Scheduled Task melalui wizard. Klik

Next untuk masuk dalam list berisi program yang bisa dijadwalkan.

2. Jika tool yang hendak Anda jadwalkan tidak tertera pada list, klik Browse dan

arahkan ke folder tempat tool yang Anda maksud berada. Kebanyakan tool

Windows berada dalam folder Windows\system32. Pilih salah satu dan klik Open.

3. Ketik nama task tersebut dan tentukan tingkat keseringan atau frekuensi jadwal

program tersebut. Klik Next, atur setting lain yang diperlukan dan tambahkan

username beserta password untuk mengamankan Schedule Task.

Troubleshooting Sederhana

129. Jika saat defrag tiba-tiba komputer berhenti, restart dan masuk dalam Safe Mode

dengan menekan tombol F8 sesaat sebelum Windows mulai berjalan. Defrag lagi

harddisk Anda dari mode ini.

130. Cari tahu apakah drive Anda FAT atau NTFS dengan mengklik kanan drive tersebut

dan memilih Properties kemudian masuk ke tab General. Baca detail file system pada

kotak dialog yang muncul.

131. Ubah sebuah drive dalam format FAT menjadi NTFS melalui DOS dengan perintah

133. Jika saat menginstal sebuah driver baru komputer hang, restore komputer ke

Main program window

The main window shows a list of downloaded files. This list includes additional information about downloaded files like file size, download status, estimated time to complete, current download speed and download description. You can sort the list by any column by clicking on a column header.

Download control buttons (Add URL, Start/Resume, Stop, Stop All, Delete, Delete All Completed, Options, Scheduler, Tell A Friend) are located above the list. They can be in active or disabled state depending on what actions are possible for the current selection of downloads.

Click on Tell a Friend button to tell your friends about Internet Download Manager!

You can add a new file to download with Add URL button. You can either enter new URL in the text box or select URL from existing ones. You can also specify login information if the server demands authorization by checking "Use authorization" box.

If URL format is valid, "Save As" dialog will appear where you can type file description and choose the path where the file is to be saved. Alternatively you can add description later in "Download Properties" dialog. There are three buttons on the bottom of the dialog window. If you want to cancel the download, press on Cancel button.

If you want to start downloading immediately, press on Start/Resume Download. That will bring file IDM file download dialog. The dialog let you get an additional control over the download. It also shows download progress, average download speed, estimated time to complete, current download state, whether resume is supported by the server, etc. The dialog also has a chart to display download progress for each downloaded file segment.

You can press Pause button to postpone downloading, or Cancel to stop download and to close the dialog. You can always resume download at any time. Note that Resume button restarts download from the last saved position only if remote server supports this function.

Stop button stops downloads for selected files. You can also stop download by pushing Cancel button in File Download dialog or by closing the dialog. Stop All button stops all downloads in progress.

Delete button deletes selected files from the download list. It's enabled only for complete or paused file downloads. If file download is not complete, IDM will ask for the confirmation to delete it from the list.

Delete Completed button (available only in registered versions) deletes all complete downloads from the list.

Scheduler button starts Scheduler dialog window where you can set timer to execute download tasks. Q column shows whether the file is in download queue. You can add/delete file from the queue by right clicking on file name and picking "Add to Queue" and "Delete from Queue" menu items.

All main controls are also available in File menu as well as in Popup menu with the right mouse click on a file in the Download List.

You can pick Properties item in popup menu to see/edit properties of the selected file. You can change the location to save file, add description, change URL or server login information (username and password).
Categories

In the left side of the main part of the window is a tree of download categories. Internet Download Manager offers the categories feature to organize and manage your files. If you don't need it, you may simply close Categories window and don't select any categories when downloading files. Every download category has a name, a default download directory and a list of associated file types. IDM has several predefined categories like Music, Video, Programs, Documents, etc. You may delete, edit them, or add your own categories.

Right clicking on a categories item will show a menu to allow you to add a new categories, or to edit or delete existing items. When adding a category, you may choose the file extensions to associate with the category, and you may select the default download directory where to place the files of this category.

For example, Documents category could have the following extensions "doc pdf xls txt" and the following default download category "c:\downloads\documents".

IDM will suggest the category and the folder automatically when you download or save files that match the list of file types. If you disable save file dialogs in IDM options, IDM will place downloads to their designated folders automatically.
The customization of the look of IDM main window

Internet Download Manager has a feature to customize columns and the look of the toolbar.

The standard version of Internet Download Manager has 4 built-in toolbar looks: Large 3D buttons, Small 3D buttons, Large Classic buttons and Small Classis buttons. You can select the toolbar look that you like from these choices, or you may download a new look from Internet Download Manager home site. If you are familiar with graphics design basics, you may also draw your own toolbar for your Internet Download Manager. You may also customize what buttons should appear on the toolbar and in what order.

To customize IDM toolbar look, please right click on the toolbar and the right click menu will appear (look below).

You can select the toolbar style and the toolbar button size from the choices available in this menu. If you need to download new toolbar look for Internet Download Manager, please pick "Look for new" menu item.

To customize toolbar buttons, please select "Customize..." menu item.

In this dialog you can control what buttons should appear on IDM toolbar and in what order. Left pane of the window shows the list of available buttons. Right pane shows the list of buttons in IDM toolbar. You can order buttons by selecting a button in this list, and pressing "Move Up" or "Move Down". You may add and remove buttons by selecting a button, and pressing "Add" or "Remove".

To customize IDM columns on the main window, right click on a column header.

You may select what columns should appear, the width of columns, and the columns order. To enable a column, you should check the corresponding check box for the required column. You may move the column to another location by selecting it, and using "Move Up" and "Move Down" buttons. You may also change the order of columns by dragging and dropping a column header on the required place in IDM main window.

Supernova

One of the most energetic explosive events known is a supernova. These occur at the end of a star's lifetime, when its nuclear fuel is exhausted and it is no longer supported by the release of nuclear energy. If the star is particularly massive, then its core will collapse and in so doing will release a huge amount of energy. This will cause a blast wave that ejects the star's envelope into interstellar space. The result of the collapse may be, in some cases, a rapidly rotating neutron star that can be observed many years later as a radio pulsar.

While many supernovae have been seen in nearby galaxies, they are relatively rare events in our own galaxy. The last to be seen was Kepler's star in 1604. This remnant has been studied by many X-ray astronomy satellites, including ROSAT. There are, however, many remnants of Supernovae explosions in our galaxy, that are seen as X-ray shell like structures caused by the shock wave propagating out into the interstellar medium. Another famous remnant is the Crab Nebula which exploded in 1054. In this case a pulsar is seen which rotates 30 times a second and emits a rotating beam of X-rays (like a lighthouse). Another dramatic supernova remnant is the Cygnus Loop.

It is now believed that at the center of each galaxy there is a super-massive black hole that is millions to billions of times heavier than our sun. The massive black hole captures nearby stars and drags them into a swirling accretion disk. A "torus" in the inner accretion shields the black hole in those systems that are viewed edge on (which is probably the case for our galactic center). In many of these systems (which are called AGN = active galactic nucleus), a jet is ejected perpendicular to the disk and is seen in the optical and radio wavebands. In the very central regions the disk becomes so hot (tens of millions of degrees) that the emission is in the X-ray and Gamma-ray bands. This animation shows an artist's impression of the view from an approaching spaceship. The HEASARC data archives contain many observations of these systems made with orbiting X-ray and Gamma-ray observatories.

Surabaya, 24/12 (Entertainment.Roll) - Sejumlah stasiun televisi nasional dan lokal di Jatim yang tidak mempunyai Izin Stasiun Radio (ISR) mematikan siarannya, Rabu, karena terkena razia Balai Monitor Spektrum Frekuensi atau Balmon.

Kepala Seksi Penyiaran dan Penertiban Balai Monitor Spektrum Frekuensi Radio dan Orbit Satelit Kelas II Surabaya, Syamsul Huda mengemukakan hal itu ketika dihubungi saat melakukan razia di Malang.

Syamsul mengatakan sejumlah stasiun televisi yang mematikan siarannya di Malang, yakni Metro TV dan Gajayana TV.

Sementara itu, stasiun televisi yang mematikan siaran setelah terkena razia Balmon adalah Trans TV, Trans 7, Global TV, TV One, Agro TV, Dama TV, Batu TV, Spacetoon, Malang TV dan Mahameru TV.

"Razia dilakukan sebagai tindak lanjut kebijakan Menkominfo tentang penertiban stasiun televisi yang tidak mempunyai ISR. Sebelumnya sudah dilakukan sosialisasi dan monitoring ke sejumlah stasiun televisi di Jatim," katanya.

Syamsul mengatakan deteksi terhadap stasiun televisi yang melakukan siaran namun tidak mempunyai ISR diketahui dari "spketrum analyzer".

Sesuai amanat Undang-Undang Telekomunikasi, ujar dia, setiap penggunaan spektrum frekuensi harus menggunakan ISR. "Spektrum frekuensi biasanya digunakan untuk siaran, seluler, komputer dan internet, sedangkan Balmon khususnya mengawasi siaran," katanya.

Terhadap sejumlah stasiun televisi yang diketahui melakukan pelanggaran, ujar Syamsul, akan dilaporkan ke pimpinan Balmon untuk ditindaklanjuti. "Kami hanya memantau dan belum ada proses pidana," katanya.

Setelah dari Malang, Balmon akan melakukan razia ke Kediri, Trenggalek, Jember, Madiun, Banyuwangi dan Tuban.

Sementara itu anggota KPID Provinsi Jatim, Arif Budi Santoso mengatakan Balmon harus bisa membedakan antara stasiun televisi yang mengajukan izin dan tidak mengajukan izin.

"Kami menghormati otoritas Balmon dalam mengawasi frekuensi, namun dalam melakukan penertiban tidak perlu didekati secara hitam putih, karena ada yang pengajuan ISR-nya dalam proses," katanya.

Arif mengatakan penertiban ISR jangan sampai mematikan industri penyiaran.

"Bagi yang stasiun televisi yang sudah mendapatkan rekomendasi kelayakan (RK) dari KPI dan KPID tidak dipersoalkan oleh Balmon, karena setelah mendapat RK akan memperoleh ISR," katanya.

Dalam game ini kamu disuguhi dua opsi yaitu mission dan skirmish. Di mission kamu memilih antara aliansi atau sovyet, sedangkan di skirmish kamu memilih diantara beberapa negara, sayangnya Indonesia tidak masuk dalam game ini, hehehehe
2. Warcraft 3
Sebenarnya modelnya sama dengan Red Alert, yang membedakannya adalah setting waktu dan tempat, serta pelakunya berbeda pula. kamu dapat memilih antara manusia(Human),Elf, Orc, atau Undead.
3. Battle Realms
Dalam game ini disajikan pilihan empat clan yang dapat dimainkan, yaitu Dragon, Serpen, Wolf, dan Lotus. Menurutku sih clan Lotus tu paling kuat, ga' percaya cobain deh. Dan tiap clan mempunyai beberapa Hero yang mempunyai kekuatan super tapi dengan harga yang super dan terbatas cuman satu tiap Heroes.
4. Batlle for Wesnoth
Game ini cuman mempunyai mission play , 'gak ada skirmisnya. Sangat berbeda dengan game-game lainnya, setiap pemain harus menunggu giliran mainnya kayak catur aja. Untuk para tokohnya sama dengan Warcraft, yaitu Human, Elf, Orc, dan Undead. Istimewanya tiap anak buah punya nama sendiri-sendiri dan dapat berubah status menjadi lebih kuat jika telah mengalami beberapa pertempuran. Perlu diketahui game ini memerlukan memory yang cukup besar minimal jika PIII ram minimal 256 Mb
5. Ragnarok Offline (job 3)
Sekarang kita mulai membahas game yang berbeda dimensi dengan game-game diatas. Ragnarok Offline gampangya adalah offline-nya Ragnarok Online, jadi cuman ada satu pemain dalam PC. 2. Virus wscript (Harry Potter and the....lnk)

Anda sebel dengan virus ini ?? Saya juga sebel, tapi saya menemukan penangkalnya ...

Terkena virus harry potter ciri-cirinya sebagai berikut :

1. Membuat file induk database.mdb di My Documents
2. Membuat file autorun.inf di setiap drive,flash disk, dan folder
3. Membuat file Thumb.db (hati2 tanpa huruf s) di setiap folder
4. Membuat file Microsoft.lnk dan New Harry Potter and….lnk di setiap folder
5. Membuat duplikat setiap folder dengan extensi .lnk
6. Pada task manager terdapat services wscript.exe

Tips pembasmian :
- pake' anti virus yang telah diupdate (yang udah teruji seperti avira, AVG,norton), kalo ngga' bisa pake' cara manual seperti dibawah ini
- Matikan System Restore (kilk kanan di my computer)
- Matikan proses virus wsrcipt.exe (C:\WINDOWS\System32\wscript.exe) kalo dah di disable pake proce xp
- Hapus file virus database.mdb di My Documents
- Hapus file duplikat virus
Gunakan fasilitas search pada Windows
Pada “More advanced options”, pastikan option “Search system folders” dan “Search
hidden files and folders” keduanya terpilih..
Search file dengan nama autorun.inf ukurannya 8 KB
Search file dengan nama Thumb.db ukurannya 8 KB
Search file dengan ekstensi .lnk.lnk ukurannya 1 KB
Hapus semua file yang ditemukan..
- Hapus registry Autorun yang dibuat virus dengan menggunakan HijackThis..
Cari di bagian HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run: yang berhubungan dengan file database.mdb

sebel?? PC kena virus melulu, sama donk tapi q mau sharing nih, gua mau kasih tutor bersihin virus yang pernah invasi ke PC gua.
1. Virus Tati (mylove)

ciri-ciri:

- membuat folder palsu berextensi .scr
- membuat text document bernama tati.my.love.txt
- membuat beberapa file induk dengan nama tati.exe di 2 lokasi yaitu di C:\Windows dan C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.

cara mengatasi:

Langkah 1:
Matikan "system restore" selama proses pembersihan berlangsung (bagi yang menggunakan Windows XP). Disarankan untuk melakukan pembersihan virus pada Safe Mode.

Langkah 2:
Matikan proses virus dengan nama tati.exe (icon Folder). Untuk mematikan proses virus tersebut silahkan gunakan tools seperti "proceexp". Tools ini dapat di-download di alamat http://download.sysinternals.com/Files/P...plorer.zip

Langkah 3:
Cari dan hapus file dengan nama tati.exe di direktori C:\Windows dan C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

Langkah 4:
Hapus file duplikat yang dibuat pada flash disk Anda. Untuk mempercepat proses penghapusan, Anda dapat menggunakan menu "Search Windows". Sebelum melakukan pencarian sebaiknya tampilkan terlebih dahulu file/folder yang disembunyikan. Berikut cara untuk menampilkan file/folder yang disembunyikan dan mencari file virus.
